Where to watch Rick and Morty
Where you go depends on whether you're catching up, or trying to watch a new episode the night it lands.
Last checked 26 July 2026 · US availability
Rick and Morty streams on Hulu and HBO Max, and airs on Adult Swim.
Nine seasons, 91 episodes, and more ordered. New episodes premiere on Adult Swim first and reach the streaming services afterwards.
Catching up versus keeping up
If you're starting from the beginning, use whichever of Hulu or HBO Max you already pay for. Both hold the back catalogue and there's no meaningful difference in the viewing experience. Starting cold, HBO Max's ad tier is $10.99 a month against Hulu's $11.99, which is close enough that it shouldn't decide anything.
If you want new episodes the night they air, that's Adult Swim, the cable channel, which you reach through a live TV package like YouTube TV or through Adult Swim's own app with a TV provider login. Everything else gets the episode later.
Why it's scattered
Rick and Morty is made by Adult Swim, which is part of Warner, which owns HBO Max. So HBO Max is the corporate home. The Hulu listing is an older licensing arrangement that has outlived the strategy that produced it.
These deals get signed years before anyone knows what the streaming landscape will look like, and untangling one costs more than leaving it alone.
Nine seasons is a lot now
The show premiered in December 2013, and season nine finished its ten-episode run on 26 July 2026, which puts the total at 91. Adult Swim ordered 70 episodes in one go in May 2018, when three seasons had aired, so that order runs to 101 and has about one season left in it. This is not a show in any danger of being cancelled.
Justin Roiland co-created the show and voiced both title characters. Adult Swim cut ties with him in January 2023, and Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden took over Rick and Morty respectively from season seven.
The recasting stopped being a talking point inside a single season, which is either a testament to the casting or a slightly grim comment on how replaceable a voice turns out to be.
Do the seasons need to be watched in order?
Mostly no. It's built as episodic science fiction and you can drop into most of it cold. There is a continuity thread that thickens considerably in the later seasons, and if you watch those out of order you'll miss why certain things land.
Early seasons are the ones to sample if you're deciding whether the show is for you. If the first four episodes don't work on you, the later ones won't either — they're more of the same thing done better, not a different thing.
Add it once in WhereWuhzai and the question stops coming back. It keeps track of which of the three you're using and stops you re-searching every season.
